ABCs

I can't help but think up my own answers every time I read one of these, so I might as well get it out of my system:

Age:  32

Bed size:  queen.

Chore you dislike:  Oh my god, I so hate dishes.

Dogs:  Orbit (black great Dane), Irwin & Matilda (cattle dog/Aussie übermutts), plus Zippy (hamster) and Stu (tabby cat, a new addition)

Essential start to your day:  coffee.  I make it before I even start the kids' breakfast–the most purely selfish thing I do any given day.

Favorite color:  green.  no, blue.  wait, red...  I love color, am fascinated by how specific hues work together, yet have a mostly white/neutral house because I am so tragically indecisive about it.

Gold or silver:  Definitely silver (we're talking about metal household hardware, right? – 'cause jewelry is a waste of resources.)

Height:  5’3"

Instruments you play(ed):  Piano and flute.  Never really liked it, but my mom thought it would make me well-rounded – she was right.

Job title:  usually mom, sometimes bike shop salesperson
 
Kids:  Lola & Hank

Live:  While I'm physically in Kansas, my heart is at the beach, and my mind is still in SW Colorado.

Mom’s name:  Jennifer.  She's been gone for 14 years now and that's still weird to type.

Nicknames:  No current ones, though my new boss has called me Sara four times now, if that counts.

Overnight hospital stays:  two nights–one for each childbirth.

Pet peeves:  teeth scraping a metal fork (we have lips for a reason), clutter (I'm my own worst offender), people who are too lazy to remove the label sticker from an item before using it, parents who raise kids who are _____ [insert: racist, sexist, generally douche-y], mayonnaise... was I supposed to just list one thing here?  I could go on.

Quote from a movie:  I giggle every time the kids are watching Cars and Mater says (about Red's opinion of Lightning), "Aw, he's just a little bit shy... and he hates ya for killin' his flowers."  I am constantly using my shyness as a cover for being just plain irritated by people (see P).

Righty or lefty:  Righty, though I always wanted to be a lefty.

Siblings:  2 brothers, 3 sisters, all younger (and no, we're not Mormon or Catholic).

Time you wake up:  7, but I'm switching back to 6 this week to work out before kids wake up.

Underwear:  Um, yes?  Patagonia boy shorts are the bestest.

Vegetables you don’t like:  onions and water chestnuts.

What makes you run late:  Me.  I can always find a way to be late.

X-rays you’ve had:  just dental.  I think all my spine stuff was by MRI.

Yummy food you make:  My favorite home-cooked meal is spinach/artichoke calzones.  I've never made the same birthday cake twice, but they're always as awesome as they should be.  And I make a mean cup of coffee.

Zoo animal favorites: the sea lions.  No matter how hot and miserable our zoo gets and how pathetic their old pool, they always look so happy.  I'm personally torn about the ethics of caging animals for anything other than conservation/rescue reasons, but as a parent I see the magic of kids learning to appreciate so many animals right here in their hometown.
